Public institutions such as universities, hospitals and government facilities are taking the lead in reducing greenhouse gas emissions from their operations. For many public institutions, the largest single point source of greenhouse gas emissions is the central heating plant which uses large amounts of natural gas or fuel oil to meet the demands for heat and hot water in buildings.

Nexterra's gasification solutions offer institutions the ability to stabilize and dramatically lower fuel costs, making them less reliant on fossil fuels by switching to lower cost alternative fuels.

Nexterra energy systems range from 8 MMBtu/hr up to 100 MMBtu/hr of thermal heat (steam, hot water, flue gas) and/or 10 MW electricity. The system is flexible, operating on wood fuels (bark or whitewood) from 20 - 60% moisture content. Nexterra's systems have a quick response time and a 5:1 turn down ratio, allowing the system to match daily and seasonal load variations.

Nexterra is capable of undertaking complete supply and install or supply only of its gasification systems for institutional customers. Major projects include the University of Northern British Columbia, Dockside Green Residential Development, the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the University British Columbia.

Nexterra has teamed with energy services providers and utility services companies such as Johnson Controls Inc. and Corix and Fortis Gas to deliver energy systems to this market. Nexterra supplies its gasification systems to these energy services companies, who in turn build and operate (and sometimes finance and own) gasification plants for institutional customers.

This approach provides customers with guaranteed energy savings that use Nexterra's clean energy technology and are based on the corporate and financial backing of a well established energy services company.
