Nexterra’s gasification technology has a number of advantages over traditional combustion systems that make it uniquely competitive for industrial energy system applications.
1 Low Capital Cost
Nexterra’s energy systems cost less because they are simpler in design, contain less equipment and have fewer moving parts. First, they typically do not require emission control equipment such as multicones and electrostatic precipitators (ESPs). The ash collection system is also simpler, less expensive and easier to operate compared to conventional combustion systems. The gasifier does not require water cooled grates or multiple ash collection and transfer points. Finally, our systems require minimal soot blowing equipment in heat recovery equipment.
2 Low O&M Cost
Nexterra systems are less expensive to operate and maintain because of their simple design and requirement for less equipment. Lower gas velocities and temperatures in the gasifier result in longer life and less refractory maintenance. Reduced particulate scouring results in less wear on the refractory in the gasifier. Finally, cleaner flue gas results in less frequent, faster and easier cleaning of heat exchanger surfaces.
3 Syngas Versatility
Nexterra gasifiers are more versatile than conventional combustion equipment. Syngas is a flexible fuel that can be conveyed and directly fired in existing heat recovery equipment such as kilns, dryers, lime kilns and boilers. Syngas can also be processed, cooled and compressed and delivered to multiple users on a single site. Finally, low emissions allow our gasifier systems to be cost-effectively used in jurisdictions that have the most rigorous air quality standards.
4 Simple, Easy Operation
Design simplicity, superior operational control, high turndown ratio, idling capability, syngas control and ability to eliminate ash melting all contribute to making Nexterra gasifier systems very simple and easy to operate compared to conventional combustion processes. This results in minimal operator intervention and contributes to low operating cost.
