University of Northern British ColumbiaNexterra Systems Corp. is a global leader in biomass gasiiication technology. The company develops and supplies turnkey biomass gasification systems that generate heat andlor power for public institutions and industrial customers.

Nexterra's patented gasification systems convert renewable biomass fuels into clean burning, combustible synthetic gas (syngas) that can be used as a substitute for natural gas and other fossil fuels in the production of heat, steam or power. These high efficiency systems enable customers to generate clean renewable energy from low cost biomass, and are ideally suited to urban environments.

Nexterra's award-winning systems are based on the company's proprietary gasification technology that provides a unique combination of attributes. These include lower costs, ultra-low emissions, fully automated control systems, design simplicity, reliability, versatility and fuel flexibility compared to conventional combustion equipment.

These attributes make our technology ideally suited for small scale thermal and cogeneration applications at industrial and institutional facilities. The typical scale of energy systems range from 2 to 40 MWth / 8 to 100 MM Btu/hr net useable heat for thermal systems or from 2 to 10 MW electricity for cogeneration systems.

"This (Nexterra bioenergy gasification) project is a model for using local, renewable energy. They are models for energy efficiency and ultra-low emissions. They are models for how to integrate campus operations into teaching and research that is of tremendous value for our region. I've been involved with universities for nearly 40 years, and I've never been involved with a project like this."
- Dr. George Iwama, President, University of Northern British Columbia
