Nexterra is committed to providing systems that reliably and cost-effectively create high-value products from waste biomass. Since 2004, Nexterra has operated a dedicated 12 tonne/day Product Development Center (PDC) to enhance Nexterra’s systems and solutions.

At the PDC, Nexterra:

  • Conducts extended tests of different types of waste feedstocks
  • Pilots and demonstrate new applications
  • Optimizes Nexterra’s core gasification platform.

Since 2004, the PDC has achieved the following milestones:

  • Over 30,000 hours of gasifier operation
  • Over 5,000 hours of syngas conditioning system operation
  • Over 3,000 hours of GE Jenbacher internal combustion engine (JGS 208 / 239 kWe power output) operation.

Nexterra has also tested several different types of waste feedstock at the PDC including wood chips, sawdust, bark, construction and demolition debris, and biosolids.

In 2010, Nexterra entered into a research collaboration agreement with UBC to explore the production of advanced chemicals and products from gasification. Nexterra continues to explore opportunities to use its core gasification and gas conditioning technologies as a platform for the development of high-value gases, fuels and chemicals from waste feedstocks.
